Urge SEAA to include a FV60 category in all events
The Issue
The South of England Athletics Association (SEAA) has long been a pillar of our athletic community, promoting participation and competition across a wide range of events. However, it has come to our attention that the SEAA is failing to recognize the achievements and contributions of older female athletes by not including a specific FV60 category in their events. This issue is not just a matter of oversight but a significant barrier to participation and recognition for women over 60.
As someone eagerly preparing for the SEAA road relays scheduled for 26 September 2026, I was disheartened to discover that there is no FV60 category for women like there is for men. This omission effectively forces female athletes over 60 to compete in categories intended for younger age groups, such as V40 or V50. This places us at a disadvantage against younger competitors who are able to run at a different pace and performance level.
The inclusion of the FV60 category is essential in ensuring a level playing field for all competitors, regardless of age or gender. This isn't just about fairness—it's about promoting inclusivity and encouraging participation among older women who have spent years dedicating themselves to the sport.
The lack of a FV60 category not only demoralizes older female athletes but also discourages them from participating in events they love. It stands in stark contrast to the support provided to male athletes, who already benefit from a V60 category. It is time for the SEAA to recognize the potential and dedication of women over 60 by adjusting their event categories.
We urge the SEAA to take immediate action to rectify this inequality and inspire future generations of female athletes to continue participating and competing. By creating and promoting an FV60 category across all competitions, SEAA will acknowledge and celebrate the achievements of older women athletes, motivating them to continue their passion for athletics.
Let's stand together to ensure that our sporting events reflect the diversity and talent of all participants. Sign this petition to make the FV60 category a reality in SEAA competitions and give older women athletes the recognition they truly deserve.
