Have you ever felt the frustration of being unable to chat with friends or family on Roblox due to the January 7 Age Group update? I have. This update introduced restrictions that essentially divided our community, requiring Trusted Connections for cross-age communication. It's a well-meaning policy intended to protect minors, but it inadvertently created gaps that disrupt not just our gaming communities but families and role-player communities too.

Imagine this: you're in the middle of an epic role-play on Roblox, the plot is thickening, players are collaborating seamlessly, and suddenly, you're cut off because someone isn’t on a "Trusted Connection." Experiences like these are frustrating and unnecessary. To make matters worse, family members who use the platform to connect with their younger relatives for some quality bonding time are similarly barred unless they tackle these technical barriers.

I am asking Roblox to reconsider this update and allow cross-age chat among friends, family, and established role-play communities, while maintaining parental controls. My proposal is simple but effective: offer Experience Chat options that include Friends, Similar Age Groups, or Everyone. This should be accompanied with very strict limitations on minor-adult interactions, to ensure safety. For instance, direct messages or whisper commands from a child to an adult should be automatically restricted.

In today’s interconnected era, where gaming often serves as a digital playground or hangout spot, Roblox has the unique opportunity to lead by example, balancing safety with the community’s desire to connect across ages. They can do this by providing parents the tools to control whom their children can chat with, expanding safety features while offering options for supervised cross-age communication.

With these changes, we can minimize isolation and separation between friends and family within the Roblox community. These modifications do not compromise on safety; rather, they provide necessary flexibility within fundamental security measures. By integrating these enhanced options, Roblox would be fostering a vibrant and inclusive community without jeopardizing its youngest players' safety.
