Please join us in asking the Pasadena City Council to meet with Rose Bowl Riders, hear directly from the many individuals, families, and children who use this facility, and publicly consider a path that allows equestrian programming to continue at Hahamongna.

We are not a new program asking Pasadena for a chance. Rose Bowl Riders has been part of this community for 80 years. Rose Bowl Riders was incorporated in 1946, built the clubhouse in 1951, and today remains located on 6 acres in the Hahamongna Watershed Park, with arenas, boarding facilities, and direct access to the Arroyo Seco trail system.

We have been the place where generations of riders and horse lovers have found

• Affordable riding lessons by professional instructors 
• A place for children to learn to ride and care for horses
• A boarding facility with stalls twice the size of any others in the LA area
• Lessons offered free of charge as part of our community outreach programs
• Clinics, horse shows, and inclusive social events
• Friendships, support, and opportunities to volunteer and give back to the community

But now our future is uncertain.

Earlier this year, Rose Bowl Riders was the sole respondent to the City's Request for Proposal, a process that included negotiating a long-term lease for continued operation of the property. Although the City initially agreed to move forward with those negotiations, it has since stopped responding to our requests to meet. Rose Bowl Riders has now received notice requiring that all the horses, children, and equipment vacate the property by January 2027.  

We are asking the Pasadena City Council to:

• Meet directly with Rose Bowl Riders’ representatives, which they have refused to do to date.
• Provide a public discussion of the options for the future of the property and its equestrian programming.
• Consider the site's documented history and the community programs that have operated there as decisions about its future are made.
• Explore whether an agreement can be reached with Rose Bowl Riders that allows equestrian and youth programming to continue at Hahamongna.
• This is about more than a property.

Over the past 80 years, Rose Bowl Riders has built a wonderful community of horse enthusiasts whose mission is to connect people to horses and provide access to children and the residents of Pasadena to horses and the trails of the Arroyo. Once a place like this disappears, it will be extraordinarily difficult to replace.  

Please sign and ask the Pasadena City Council to hear this community before making final decisions about the future of Rose Bowl Riders. Our history matters. These programs matter. And the children who come after us matter.
