As residents of Parkes, we hold dear the safety and wellbeing of our people above all else. We fear the imminent danger that the proposed industrial incinerator poses to our community, as the resulting pollutants could have devastating long-term health impacts. These effects might not even be measurable for decades, but the potential ruin of so many lives is a toll we're not willing to pay.

It is crucial to note that according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, even the best available incinerator technologies release significant amounts of pollutants into the environment (EPA report, 2009). These harmful pollutants include heavy metals, dioxins, and furans, which have been linked to a range of major health issues, such as cancer, respiratory diseases, and detrimental effects on the immune, endocrine, and reproductive systems.

Our beautiful town is home to a tight-knit community that values health, happiness, and the protection of our future generations. We believe that economic development should not compromise public health or environmental sustainability. Therefore, it is vital that the Parkes Shire Council gives prioritised emphasis to the voices of its local residents.
