The Issue

In New York City, the disability community is vibrant.  That's why New York City Belongs: Together for All, a new initiative of Project Access for All communities, is requesting $140,455 in City Council Speaker’s Initiative funding for free annual disability events, including the Disability Pride NYC Parade, the Disability Unite Festival, and Disability Pride Month borough events. The funds go directly to the community.

NYC Belongs: Together for All is more than just financial support; it represents a commitment to a more inclusive and aware New York City. The disability pride events are platforms to increase visibility, challenge societal norms, and advocate for the rights of over 1 million New Yorkers living with disabilities. They help foster understanding, pride, and unity, which are essential in addressing ableism and inaccessibility. With these funds, we can create inclusive spaces that not only shed light on the barriers faced by disabled people, but also celebrate their achievements and contributions to New York City.

This initiative is how we plan to fund the Parade, and if we’re not successful, we may reach out to the community once again for support in helping us cover the costs. But your signature can make a big difference. Join us in urging the New York City Council to approve this funding.
