Urge Network Rail to halt tree destruction on Speke-Edge Hill line

Urge Network Rail to halt tree destruction on Speke-Edge Hill line
The Issue
If there is sufficient support through this petition then a submission to the UK government petition site will be made as Network Rail are a UK government funded organisation, soon to become Great British Railways. The decimation of trees along the railway line between Speke and Edge Hill is not only ruining the aesthetics of one of the UK's most visited cities—Liverpool—but it is also devastating the livelihoods of those living alongside the neighbours of Network Rail. This environmental vandalism must be stopped. For years, residents have cherished these trees that provide a serene backdrop, reduce noise pollution, and play a vital role in supporting local wildlife.
However, Network Rail has started to eradicate these vital trees, claiming safety concerns as the reason. But what if these claims are overstated? With the use of Google Earth, we can see that these healthy trees pose no threat to railway safety. They neither overhang the tracks nor create any visibility issues. Instead, they provide essential environmental benefits such as carbon absorption, habitat for countless bird species, and a natural barrier to railway noise.
Liverpool's identity is intertwined with its landscape. As a city famed for its culture, music, and maritime history, Liverpool should also be recognized for its commitment to green and environmentally sustainable practices. To destroy our trees is to betray this identity.
By signing this petition, you will help send a strong message to Network Rail urging them to reconsider their tree-felling strategy and engage in transparent assessments of any real risk these trees might pose. We demand an evidence-based approach and critical evaluation before any further irreversible damage is done. Let us protect Liverpool’s green belt and ensure a sustainable future for our communities.
Sign this petition to urge Network Rail to halt the destruction of these irreplaceable trees and to preserve the natural beauty that makes our railway commutes a pleasure, not just a journey.
