Urge mla and council to renew affordable housing support
The Issue
My family and I have found a home in our community that provides us with stability and a sense of belonging. However, we are now facing the prospect of being uprooted, losing our friends, and having to leave the community that holds so much value to us, including the grave site of our beloved daughter and sister. This is because the support agreement that makes our housing affordable has come to an end.
Affordable housing should be a source of stability, not uncertainty. Many families like ours depend on these agreements to maintain a sense of security and continuity in our lives. Without continued support, we face the reality of unaffordable rent or being forced to move away from the community where we have built our lives.
We urge the MLA, the Mayor, and council members to recognize the importance of affordable housing agreements and their impact on low-income families. We call upon them to take immediate action to negotiate a new agreement and secure appropriate funding to keep these vital programs running. It is crucial to ensure that families living in low-income housing are not left without options, losing the stability and dignity that a safe home provides.
Statistics show that housing instability leads to poorer health outcomes, reduced educational attainment for children, and increased financial strain for families. Ensuring affordable housing can prevent these negative impacts, allowing families to thrive and communities to flourish.
Supporting low-income families in our community should be a top priority. By renewing the housing agreement, you help maintain the fabric of our community and uphold the values of stability and equality. We appeal to the MLA, Mayor, and council members to take this matter seriously and act decisively.
Please sign this petition to show your support for low-income families and help us keep our homes and our sense of community.
