Urge Minister Saffioti to Stop Works at Hertha Road, Innaloo for Turtle Conservation
The issue
I am deeply concerned about the environmental impact of the ongoing construction works, initiated by Minister Saffioti, at Hertha Road, Innaloo. This area is a known breeding spot for the snake neck turtle, a unique and protected species. Some are even hibernating while being bulldozed over!
Despite the vital ecological role of this area, there has been no proper community consultation and no satisfactory environmental review. The most disconcerting part is that the existing review grossly overlooks the presence of these legally protected turtles.
The importance of preserving habitats like these cannot be undersold. Destruction of natural habitats is a significant factor in the decline of wildlife populations worldwide, including turtles. For these already endangered turtles, the loss of this habitat means the population will further decline.
By signing this petition, we are collectively raising our voice to hold the government accountable for their due roles in environmental protection. Let us all come together for the sake of the snake neck turtles, our environment, and future generations. Please sign this petition.
