Urge Marvel Studios to Prioritize Quality Over Quantity; Boycott Them

The Issue

For me, this appeal is deeply personal. As someone who strongly values storytelling and narrative depth, it is disheartening to witness Marvel Studios prioritize profit over poignant stories. The current trend of prioritizing quantity over quality in their productions tarnishes respect for their creative work. As a writer, I find it distressing that writers at Marvel are seemingly compelled to emphasize speed over meaningful character and story development. Where is the pride in crafting something with care and intention? Money should not be the sole driving force.

They wonder why people are angry and upset that they killed off The Black Widow? Because the writers failed to make her a three dimensional character, and then forced her to sacrifice herself because she did not have a family. An example of poor writing; just because a person does not have a stereotypical family does not mean their life has less worth.

One of the ways Marvel Studios could bring back viewers is to bring back the characters that drew people to their movies to begin with- Iron Man, Captain America, The Black Widow. You could easily make new stories that are more developed, more thoughtful, and more creative.  The fact that they got rid of some of their best characters shows their lack of understanding of what many people were and are interested in.

Marvel Studios has become synonymous with big-budget spectacles, but the heart of any good story lies in its characters and in its narrative development. The expansive Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), once a groundbreaking venture in cinema, is now experiencing a creativity crisis. By 2025, as film and media analysis reveals, the industry is expected to be inundated with superhero content, contributing to an oversaturated market and escalating superhero fatigue among audiences. The sheer volume of content—often perceived as half-baked efforts—detracts from the enjoyment of what should be unique and exciting storytelling experiences.

The impact on the box office has been telling. According to numerous reports, Marvel movies are starting to see diminishing returns. This is indicative of an audience that craves more nuanced and well-crafted stories rather than just visual spectacles. People have begun to notice this shift towards quantity over quality, and it reflects in their declining interest.

I implore Marvel Studios to recognize this growing sentiment and to take decisive action to pivot their approach. By refocusing their priorities on crafting stories with strong character arcs and innovative plots, they can rediscover the essence of what made their earlier works so beloved. Let us urge Marvel Studios to invest more time and effort into each project, ensuring that every film and series released is crafted with the dedication and excellence that fans worldwide have come to expect and deserve.

There are a plethora of reasons why Marvel Studios is beginning to fail, to lose a large audience, to become irrelevant. They need to pay attention if they want to stay relevant, and if they want to be seen as a film studio that actually cares about what they produce.

Please join me in petitioning Marvel Studios to embrace quality storytelling, and together, let's inspire change in the cinematic universe we love.  Sign this petition to demand a change in how Marvel Studios approaches its future projects. You can also write to Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, and consider other ways to make an impact. Create your own petitions as well.
