Vice President Kamala Harris appears to have gained the surprising support of former Vice President Dick Cheney. For many in the Democratic party, this support is deeply troubling. Cheney, who served under President George W. Bush, is a controversial figure with a reputation associated with war crimes, environmental destructions, and the creation of perpetual international conflicts, including the Iraq War which resulted in up to 300,000 direct civilian deaths (source: Watson Institute, Brown University). Many believe that his actions played a significant part in the political, environmental, and social challenges we face today including the widespread defunding of public services and welfare in order to cut taxes on the wealthiest 1% of Americans (primarily through advancement of the Bush Tax Cuts), drastic militarization of our police forces and proliferation of mass incarceration, continual repeating of lies based on intelligence he knew to be faulty in order to justify the invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan (eventually aiding the rise of groups such as ISIS), the large scale repealing of energy and financial regulation, both of which would eventually lead to enormous catastrophes, ecological and economic the world-round. As well as pushing for the use of Guantanamo Bay to torture without trial many innocent, directly in violation of the Geneva Convention and well established International Law. He is well known for using fear to subdue well earned resistance from the people as an attempt to crack down on the civil and constitutional liberties we hold dear. So we the people of the United States, ask Kamala Harris, who is campaigning on the values of preserving democracy, to publicly disavow this support from a demagogue who stripped away the rights of Americans in the name of hatred and through the methods of terror. Her values and politics should represent a break from the past, not a continuation of its mistakes. We believe it is critical for her to take this stand in order to retain the confidence of her democratic voters. Please sign this petition to demand that Kamala Harris publicly renounce the support of Dick Cheney, or risk losing the vote of all these signatories. In the name of reaching across the aisle Madam Vice President has joyously showed off her endorsements by those who are the total embodiment of what she is attempting to defeat in November.
