Urge Internet Platforms to Crack Down on Online Panhandling
Urge Internet Platforms to Crack Down on Online Panhandling
The Issue
As users of diverse internet platforms like Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Bigo, and so on, we experience joy and community through countless free apps. However, alongside this internet freedom, we are increasingly witnessing a distressing trend: persistent begging and harassment by users, some of whom are on social security.
Our cause resonates with an urgent need to report these fraudulent activities and bring an end to a practice that threatens the peace and wellbeing of our online spaces. This issue is deeply personal to us. We believe it's time to prohibit people from exploiting these platforms for personal gain at the expense of others' tranquility.
According to a survey by the Pew Research Center, 41% of U.S. adults have been harassed online. Of those, 66% reported witnessing abusive behaviors directed at others. It's undeniable that online harassment is a widespread problem that needs to be taken seriously.
While we appreciate the contribution these platforms have made to our lives, remuneration from these apps must not encourage exploitative behaviors. As users, we insist on strict measures to regulate unscrupulous practices that sully our digital experience.
We're calling on the CEOs of these platforms to take the necessary actions to monitor, prevent, and penalize online begging and harassment. We, the users, are done tolerating the disruption of our digital peace. It's time for action.
Join us in urging these companies to prioritize online safety and to end online panhandling. Sign our petition! Let your voice be heard. Together, we can steer the internet back towards its original purpose: connecting people constructively.
