Urge Iberia Express to Reinstate Direct Flights from Birmingham to Madrid

Urge Iberia Express to Reinstate Direct Flights from Birmingham to Madrid
The Issue
Petition to Reinstate Direct Flights:
Birmingham (BHX) to Madrid (MAD) by Iberia Express, featuring 3-4 weekly flights.
Why Birmingham needs more Madrid flights:
- Was 4 carriers, 12+ weekly flights; now only 1 carrier, 2-3 flights.
- Smaller UK airports surpass; e.g., Bristol has 2 carriers, 8 flights.
- Demand for 7/8 weekly flights; leakage to LHR/LGW/STN/LTN/BRS/MAN.
Why Iberia Express is ideal:
- Complements Ryanair; targets diverse demographics.
- Opens Latin America connections.
- Boosts OneWorld at BHX; taps into IAG’s Avios rewards.
- Strategically timed for business travel.
—
Birmingham, one of the largest cities in the UK, is currently underserved with direct flights to Madrid. Previously, there were up to 4 carriers providing 12+ flights per week. Now, we are down to a single carrier offering only 2-3 flights per week. This reduction has occurred despite smaller UK airports such as Bristol maintaining two carriers and eight weekly flights.
There is a clear demand for more frequent service between Birmingham (BHX) and Madrid (MAD). Evidence suggests that there is sufficient demand for at least 7-8 direct flights per week from BHX. Currently, potential passengers are being diverted elsewhere due to this lack of service.
We call on Iberia Express to consider the needs of travelers in our region and reinstate direct flights between Birmingham and Madrid with a frequency of at least three or four times weekly. This will not only meet passenger demand but also contribute positively towards local economic growth by facilitating business travel and tourism.
Please sign this petition if you support increasing flight connectivity between these two important cities!
