Urge HBO to Restore 'Lovecraft Country'

The Issue

Growing up, I was surrounded by films that depicted the enslavement/oppression black people. Yet, I have never seen a film that truly highlights our indigenous magic. It's essential to showcase our ancestral lineage and the greatness from which we descend by illustrating that we possess inherent magic, even during the most challenging periods of our history—including slavery and Jim Crow. Such representations are crucial for understanding the richness of our stories and recognizing the magic woven into the fabric of our heritage.

"Lovecraft Country" was a groundbreaking series that did just that. It showcased Black creativity, intellect, and resilience in the face of adversity, set within a fantastical narrative that empowered us to see our history in a new light. By canceling the series, HBO has severed a vital connection to stories that provide us with both reflection and hope.

The influence of economic power within the Black community is evident, especially after witnessing the success of “Sinners” starring Michael B Jordan it is crucial that we recognize the strength and agency of our people. The cancellation of "Lovecraft Country" is not just a loss of a TV show; it's a significant cultural setback. Black creativity has reached unprecedented heights since the Harlem Renaissance. It is imperative that we sustain this momentum and instill in our children a sense of our inherent greatness. Our origins extend beyond the legacy of slavery; we are much more than the narratives often portrayed in mainstream media.

It's time to hold Max/HBO accountable. By refraining from supporting their platform until 'Lovecraft Country' is restored, we can use our collective economic power to make a statement. We demand the return of a series that respects our past and celebrates our future.

Join us in urging HBO to bring back 'Lovecraft Country' and continue to explore narratives that affirm and empower Black identities. Sign this petition to support the restoration of a series that breaks barriers and highlights the rich cultural tapestry of our community.
