Urge Florida State University and State of Florida to Support Victims of FSU Shooting

The Issue

Under the dark cloud of recent tragic events, we find ourselves driven to support our fellow community members affected by the awful mass shooting at Florida State University's student union. This horrifying incident claimed the lives of two innocent people and injured six others, leaving the Tallahassee & university community in shock and immeasurable grief. The emotional and economic toll of this tragedy on the victims and their families is significant.

We believe that Florida State University and the state of Florida should step forward in this trying time and help bear the unexpected financial burdens forced upon these affected families. This includes but is not limited to immediate medical expenses for the injured, and funeral costs for the deceased. This support is an essential step in the process of healing and recovering from such a traumatic event.

A similar framework was adopted by the state of Nevada following the Las Vegas shooting in 2017 which saw the establishment of the Las Vegas Victims' Fund. This initiative went a long way in diminishing the financial struggles of the victims' families and provided some relief in their time of distress.

It would be a good gesture for the state of Florida and Florida State University to exhibit similar solidarity for their citizens and students. As members of this community, it is our moral obligation to alleviate the burdens borne by the victims of this tragic incident and their families. Signing this petition will demonstrate your support for this much-needed change. Together, we can ensure that the victims of this tragedy are not alone in their struggle. Sign this petition to support the idea that Florida State University and the state of Florida should actively help their affected community members.
