The Issue

As a lifelong fan of the Shrek series, this issue strikes at the heart of my own nostalgia and love for these films. The animation style of Shrek was not merely cosmetic; it played a crucial part in how we connected with these iconic characters and their stories. There is concern among fans like myself that the upcoming "Shrek 5" may abandon their cherished original animation style in favor of a newer approach.

Even by 2001 standards, the initial Shrek film was a groundbreaking blend of technology and artistry that later damned its way into the prestigious Criterion Collection. Shrek's animation style broke the mold and proved animation could push the boundaries of what was visually possible while keeping its core narrative intact (Gerken, Erik, "The Making of Shrek," TIME Magazine).

The decisions we make about our cultural landmarks matter. They matter to the millions of fans who grew up on these stories, to the artists who worked tirelessly to bring them to life, and to future generations who deserve to experience them as they were initially conceived.

We urge DreamWorks Animation and any other stakeholders to preserve the original animation style in "Shrek 5". By staying true to its roots, "Shrek 5" can continue the legacy of a series that has already brought immeasurable joy and inspiration to millions of fans worldwide.

Please sign this petition and join us in requesting a respectful preservation of Shrek's original animation style.
