Urge Dan Gilbert to Revive the WNBA Cleveland Rockers

Urge Dan Gilbert to Revive the WNBA Cleveland Rockers

The Issue

As a parent of twin 12-year-old daughters who are passionate about basketball, I've seen firsthand the joy and empowerment that comes from their involvement in sports. This past summer, we attended a Chicago Sky game, and the excitement was palpable. It reminded me of my own fond memories of attending Cleveland Rockers games.

The Cleveland Rockers were an integral part of our community until they left in 2003. Since then, girls' sports have grown exponentially in popularity and participation. According to the Women's Sports Foundation, girls who participate in sports have higher self-esteem and are more likely to excel academically.

Moreover, the WNBA has become much more established since the Rockers left Cleveland. The league has grown from eight teams at its inception to twelve today with an average attendance of over 7,000 fans per game (according to ESPN). This demonstrates a clear demand for women's professional basketball.

Therefore, we urge Dan Gilbert to seek an investment group dedicated to bringing back our beloved WNBA team - The Cleveland Rockers - back home where they belong. By doing so, he would not only be investing in a proven market but also inspiring young athletes, like my daughters, across Ohio.

Please sign this petition if you believe that it's time for the return of the WNBA Cleveland Rockers!
