Urge Cowboys Music Festival to Free Millennium Park's Skatepark

Urge Cowboys Music Festival to Free Millennium Park's Skatepark
The Issue
As a skateboarder and BMX enthusiast in Calgary, I eagerly anticipate the brief summer months when I can enjoy the weather and the amazing facilities offered by Millennium Park's skatepark. Unfortunately, this cherished season is being interrupted by the Cowboys Music Festival using the skatepark area for scaffolding and event setup during the summer. This is regarded by many as a frustrating and inconsiderate decision.
Calgary's summers are precious and fleeting, providing only a couple of months where outdoor activities like skateboarding and BMX can be fully enjoyed. Yet, the Cowboys Music Festival has chosen to encroach upon this limited time by invading Millennium Park's skatepark with scaffolding for staging, making it impossible for us to use the space. This action not only disregards the needs of local skateboarders and BMX riders but also limits the recreational options available for families and youth who frequent the park.
The area between the skatepark and the Mewata Armoury offers ample space for the music festival without disrupting the skatepark. This alternative site is not only spacious but can also accommodate the festival's needs without impacting other park activities, reflecting a more harmonious coexistence between different community interests.
A reasonable resolution is within reach. By relocating the festival's setup away from the skatepark, we can preserve our beloved space for recreational use while still allowing the Cowboys Music Festival to thrive. This compromise supports the vibrant culture of both events and ensures that everyone in Calgary can enjoy the park to its fullest potential.
Sign this petition to urge the Cowboys Music Festival to reconsider their use of the Millennium Park skatepark. Let's protect our recreational spaces and ensure everyone in Calgary can enjoy the best of what our summers have to offer.
