TLDR: Tuesday, January 20, at 7:30 pm, the Covina City Council Will Vote on Increased Surveillance

  • What: Covina City Council will vote on CC 22 (Pg: 527), to fund $588,000 for the Vector USA Cameras contract for the Covina Police Department Facilities and throughout the City of Covina
  • How: Defunding Water Utility by $163,000, Sanitary Sewer by $100,000, Proposition A (Funds Lack of Public Transportation) by $30,000, & Environmental Waste budget by $75,000; totalling $368,000 reallocation for increased surveillance.
  • When: Tuesday, January 20 at 7:30 pm
  • Where: Covina City Hall: 125 E. College St., Covina, CA 91723
  • Why is this important? Vector Cams "Predict" Crimes, "Appearance Search" people, ICE Accesses AI Surveillance Cams, increased racial profiling, AI use, defunding public resources, & increased policing of our city

Vector USA Surveillance Cameras use AI to "Predict" crimes and "Appearance Search" features to find people. The Covina City Council will be approving 22 new Vector USA AI Cameras placed throughout the City & 50 cameras for the Covina Police Department facilities. Automatic License Plate Readers and AI Cameras, such as those made by Vector, USA, have been accessed by ICE to find people to abduct. The cameras added to the city will NOT keep residents safer, but create more surveillance, especially with ICE raids already having taken place in Covina/SGV, let alone the defunding of water, sanitation, and public transportation. Come speak out against CC 22 on Tuesday, January 20! Come early to complete a "Public Comment Card" and, if moved to do so, use part of your Public Comment time for a "Moment of Silence" for those impacted by and killed by ICE."
