In November, Costco announced that its second New Zealand warehouse will be opening in Drury, Auckland. This is a positive sign of continued investment and growth in our country, and proof that expansion here is firmly on the agenda.

However, for Christchurch residents, it was also a disappointment. While Auckland moves ahead with a second location, our community continues to wait for a store in the South Island.

I want to remind everyone: don’t lose hope.

The demand is here. The population is here. The economics stack up. As New Zealand’s second-largest city, Christchurch makes clear sense for expansion. We know Costco has set ambitious global growth targets in the coming years, and New Zealand MUST be part of that story.

Our job is to make sure Christchurch remains front of mind as those expansion decisions are made.

That means continuing to show our support, growing this petition, and demonstrating that the desire for Costco in Christchurch is strong and sustained.

Progress in Auckland shows that expansion is possible. Now we need to keep the momentum going and ensure Christchurch is next.
