We’ve just hit a huge milestone — over 750 signatures on our petition calling on Costco to open a warehouse in Christchurch, New Zealand!

That’s more than double what we had just three months ago — an incredible leap from 300. We’re now only 250 signatures away from hitting our next goal of 1,000 signatures.

Why does this matter now more than ever?

This morning I read this article that made me even more fired up.

According to the Annual Grocery Report just released, Foodstuffs North and South Island made more profit (as a percentage of sales) than almost any other major grocery retailer in the world — even more than Walmart, Kroger (USA), Tesco and Sainsbury's (UK).

At a time when the cost of living is through the roof, we Kiwis are being ripped off by a supermarket duopoly that puts profits first.

The government isn't acting. The supermarkets have no reason to change.

That’s why we need Costco — and we need it here in Christchurch. A second player with global reach and fairer prices will tip the scales back in our favour and give us the choice we deserve.
