Urge Congress to restore rule of law in Venezuela intervention

Urge Congress to restore rule of law in Venezuela intervention
The Issue
We, the undersigned, demand that the United States Congress take immediate action regarding the recent military intervention in Venezuela and the reported detention of President Nicolás Maduro.
If U.S. armed forces were introduced into hostilities without congressional authorization, this constitutes a violation of the Constitution and the War Powers Resolution of 1973. Congress alone holds the authority to authorize war — the executive branch cannot bypass this.
Contradictory statements from the administration further undermine public confidence. While the President has framed the operation as decisive, senior officials (including Secretary of State Marco Rubio) have alternately claimed the United States is not acting in Venezuela, that the operation does not constitute war, and that no further action is planned. These contradictions demand transparency and accountability.
International reaction has been overwhelmingly critical. Governments across Latin America and the global community have condemned the U.S. action as a violation of sovereignty and international law. Even U.S. allies have urged restraint and diplomacy, warning of potential regional destabilization and humanitarian consequences.
We call on Congress to:
Enforce the War Powers Resolution
Hold immediate public hearings
Demand full legal justification and disclosure
Hold any officials accountable who acted outside their authority
Unchecked executive war-making threatens democracy. Congress must act now to restore rule of law, transparency, and oversight.
Sign now to demand that Congress uphold the Constitution, defend democratic governance, and ensure accountability.
