Petition updateUrge Camden Councillors to Support a Ceasefire in GazaIs there movement on a Camden ceasefire motion now?

The horrific genocide in Gaza keeps getting worse. The International Court of Justice has asked Israel to cease genocidal acts. Although our government is still supporting Israel (even cutting aid to UNRWA - which is cutting food to starving people - on Israel's say-so),   we are determined to do what we can.

Thank you to
- everyone who has signed this petition,
- everyone who joined the successful demo at Camden Council on 29th January, - everyone who has written to or visited councillors,
- everyone who has written to the local paper about a ceasefire and
- everyone who has kept up constant protests against the genocide.

There is no doubt that Camden Council is feeling the pressure.

This week, Camden's Council Leader Cllr Gould and Cllr Nadia Shah, a Cabinet Member in the Council have written a letter to the local paper saying that "we need to see the fighting end immediately" and tomorrow councillors will decide whether to support a ceasefire motion being proposed by a Labour councillor (there was earlier no seconder forthcoming to a motion put in by a Green councillor).

This evening, Keir Starmer has responded to pressure from the Scottish Labour Party by also saying the fighting should end immediately.  For over four months, Starmer has not wanted his party to vote for a ceasefire. But his new words may take the pressure off  Labour councillors in Camden who want to vote for a ceasefire motion.

DATE FOR YOUR DIARY >>>>Monday March 4th at 6.30pm outside Camden Town Hall, Judd St WC1: demo for a ceasefire motion

It is possible that by the next full council meeting on Monday 4th March, there will be a ceasefire motion for councillors to vote on.

If there is a motion, we will be outside the Council encouraging councillors to vote for it. If there is no motion, we will be outside the Council demanding one.

On Monday 4th March, we propose to meet outside and then to hold hands round the council building - we hope you will come along with your friends and join in.

Until then, please keep sharing this petition - and offer help to the campaign if you can.

Camden Friends of Palestine has weekly meetings at Cafe Palestina on Wednesdays - you are welcome to join us. We meet at 6.30 for the CADFA open meeting "Let's  Talk About Palestine." which always includes Palestinian speakers, and then we discuss local action for a ceasefire and against apartheid.    (Please note there will be no meeting there on 6th March).
