In order to stop further negative impacts on the environment and diminishing opportunities for artists, Buena High School must stop their use of generative AI. 

There have been multiple documented instances of AI usage between the Buena High instagram account and the yearbook, which has been proven to diminish the environment and speed up the rate of climate change (UNEP). Alongside this growing issue, AI has negatively impacted artists, from lessening opportunities to showcase their talent, to unauthorized usage of artwork (Forbes). This has also led to local artists, even Buena students feeling devalued in favor of soulless, machine-made work. A school culture free of AI could foster deeper connections between students and art, and help ensure young artists financial security.

Now, this would not limit the freedoms of an individual to use AI, as that is a personal choice to make that cannot be obstructed. However, many members of the student body feel disappointed in the questionable usage of generative AI from Buena. 

The decision is more clear than ever that AI should not be used to represent a collective of students due to moral objections, impact on our ecosystem, and its overall negative impact on our community.
