The Issue

We, the undersigned parents, families, community members, and supporters, strongly oppose the proposed closure of Cedar Valley Elementary School at the end of this school year.

Our school is not just a building—it is the heart of our community. Generations of children have learned, grown, and thrived within its walls. Cedar Valley Elementary provides a safe, welcoming, and high-quality learning environment that serves students amazingly well. Closing it would disrupt children’s education, place unnecessary strain on surrounding schools, and weaken the bonds that make our community strong.

Our local elementaries have an overcrowding crisis. Keeping Cedar Valley open solves problems for our new district. Using all the space at Cedar Valley would create space for many students, relieve pressure across the area, and bring per-pupil costs in line with the average.

The district has said it will weigh educational outcomes, building use, enrollment, and finances. By each of these measures, Cedar Valley Elementary proves its value:

Educational outcomes: CVE students perform on par with state averages, showing that the school delivers solid results.

Enrollment and building use: CVE serves the students who live here, reducing long commutes and overcrowding elsewhere.

Finances: Closing CVE would not eliminate the costs of busing, relocating, or overburdening other schools.

Community impact: The loss of our elementary school would harm families, neighborhoods, and local stability for decades to come.

We urge the school board to keep Cedar Valley Elementary open. Protecting our school means protecting our children’s future and preserving the heart of our community.
