Uphold the Legacy in Overton, TX: Don't Close our Hunting Dog Training Pen

The Issue

Our family business, an institution opened and run by my father for the past 40 years until his passing in 2022,  that trained hunting dogs was abruptly closed by a 4-0 city council vote due to the complaints of a single individual. This is not just an attack on our revered family legacy, but a blow to the local economy of Overton, Texas. Over the years, our business has attracted many visitors from across Texas and other states, prompting them to spend hundreds, even thousands of dollars at local establishments like grocery stores, gas stations, restaurants, and local hardware suppliers each month.

Our family lineage in Overton traces back for over 150 years, consisting of property owners, business owners who were born and raised within this community. We've contributed significantly to the local economy and the cultural spirit of Texan integrity and resilience. However, the closure of a well-respected and dependable business based on a single complaint is not reflective of the values we hold dear in Overton.

We are heartbroken by the thought of dismantling the legacy and the communal spirit it has created over these years. This is a call to our beloved residents of Overton and to every person who believes in preserving local businesses that support local economies and enrich local cultures. We stand together and passionately ask for your support to overturn the city council's decision.

Stand with us to uphold the legacy of our business, our family, and aid in the continuous financial growth of Overton. Examine the council vote, the value of our business, and the benefits it brings to our community. Let us make sure our voices are not only heard but acted upon. Sign this petition for the enduring spirit of Overton, Texas.

I can remember helping my dad install the fencing, culverts, yearly clearing of brush from the fence line, and cutting firewood.  All the time teaching me the value of a hard days work.  Mother would send a strawberry cake for the men at the pen.  And the stories these men told each other!!! TALL tales to say the least!  Wonderful memories and some of the best hunting hounds ever to exist have spent time in the Overton pen.
