Uphold the Constitutional Two-Term Limit for the Presidency

Uphold the Constitutional Two-Term Limit for the Presidency
The Issue
My lifelong observations of national politics have compelled me to campaign for the preservation and respect of our constitutional two-term limit for the presidency. Over time, I have noticed that many elected officials seem to be most effective upon first assuming office. Yet as their tenure lengthens, they become complacent, less effective, and sometimes even corrupt - a troubling trend that harms our democracy.
The Founding Fathers of America conscientiously implemented the two-term limit, underscoring its importance in their belief of a balanced government. They wisely observed the potential fallout of concentrated power and wished to prevent any potential for dictatorship, demonstrating their foresight in governance.
"Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely," Lord Acton famously said, and this aphorism holds just as true today. Lifelong office holding can lead to abuse of power, as it may foster an atmosphere ripe for corruption. To evidence this, a study from the Journal of Law, Economics, and Organization found that longer terms are positively correlated with increased corruption in data pooled from more than 100 countries.
As the guardians of our democracy, we must uphold and respect the constitutional two-term limit set by our Founding Fathers. This petition is not a challenge to any political party or leader, but a call to honor and protect the democratic checks and balances that have kept our country strong for centuries.
I urge you - the American citizens - to stand with me in preserving this fundamental principle of our nation. Let us prevent any encroachment on our democratic norms and ensure our government remains of the people, for the people, and by the people. Please sign this petition.
