Uphold Stanford University Policies

The Issue

Stanford Administrators,

We are writing to petition that the students who were involved in the June incidents of vandalism, breaking and entering, and planned criminal activities at our institution continue to face charges and receive the appropriate sanctions from the Office of Community Standards (OCS).

The students in question not only committed acts of vandalism inside the administrative building but also posted pictures of their actions online, publicly flaunting their disregard for the law and our community standards. Furthermore, these students broke into the building before open hours, demonstrating a premeditated intent to commit these crimes.

In interviews with both the Stanford Daily and various off-campus news reporters, these students openly admitted to their actions and their desire to be arrested, even inviting reporters to join them inside. They acknowledged their understanding of the consequences and yet chose to proceed, clearly planning and executing these unlawful acts with full awareness of the potential repercussions.

Given the blatant nature of these offenses and the students' admitted intent to be apprehended, it is crucial that we uphold our community standards and the rule of law by ensuring they are held accountable for their actions. Allowing them to evade charges or receive lenient sanctions would set a dangerous precedent, undermining the integrity of our institution and the trust of our community.

Our response to such deliberate and egregious violations must be firm and unequivocal. The students involved knew the consequences of their actions and chose to proceed regardless. It is only just and fair that they face the charges and sanctions commensurate with their misconduct.

We urge you to consider the gravity of these offenses and the importance of upholding our institution's values as you review this petition. Ensuring accountability for these actions is not only a matter of justice but also a vital step in maintaining the standards and safety of our community.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.
