Growing up as a passionate advocate for human rights, I have always believed in the strength of Canada's commitment to equality, justice, and freedom for all. As an advocate for minority rights, it breaks my heart to see the looming threat posed by the visit of Dr. Mohan Bhagwat, chief of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), to our diverse nation.

The RSS, or राष्ट्रीय स्वयंसेवक संघ, has been under intense scrutiny and criticism for its controversial ideology and its alleged adverse impact on religious minorities in India. The ideologies promoted by the RSS run contrary to the values of acceptance, inclusivity, and diversity that Canada stands for. While we respect the cosmic bond of international relations, it is imperative that we remain vigilant to ideologies that may threaten the principles of human rights and religious freedom regardless of geographical boundaries.

The proposed visit of Dr. Bhagwat to Canada has rightfully sparked concern. Canada has been a beacon of hope for oppressed communities, offering a sanctuary where liberty and individual rights are cherished. Allowing such ideologies to gain a platform here could jeopardize the integrity of our multicultural society.

For decades, Canada has championed the rights of individuals to practice their religion freely and without fear. However, granting access to leaders with contentious backgrounds and potentially divisive rhetoric could undermine these fundamental protections.

We need our government to hear our voice and reaffirm its commitment to religious freedom, equality, and human rights.
