As a dedicated coach of the 6th grade basketball team at John Hanson Middle School, I have witnessed first-hand how our gym facilities are falling short. Our students deserve better. They need a space that will not only accommodate their physical activities but also inspire them to strive for excellence in their athletic pursuits.

John Hanson Middle School, located in Waldorf, MD, is home to hundreds of students who use these gym facilities regularly. However, the current state of our gym is not conducive to fostering an environment where our young athletes can thrive and grow. The equipment is outdated and there's a lack of proper maintenance.

According to the National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE), quality physical education programs require appropriate facilities and equipment. Unfortunately, we are currently lacking both.

Upgrading our gym would not only benefit our basketball team but all students who participate in physical education classes or other sports teams at John Hanson Middle School. It would also be an investment into the health and well-being of future generations attending this school.
