Growing up in the skateboard scene, I've experienced firsthand the incredible positive impact it can have on a young person's life. The skate park was not just a place to hone skills; it was a melting pot of culture, creativity and brotherhood, where friendships were forged regardless of race, socio-economic background, or belief systems. It's where many of us found a sense of belonging and built connections that stretched far beyond the confines of the ramps and half-pipes.

However, our local facility, the Mornington Skatepark, has seen better days.. to be fair 20 years ago Mornington skatepark sucked. Now it’s just a joke. A modernised skatepark would not only cater to the young, talented individuals in our community but also serve as an inviting space for individuals and families who wish to partake in or simply enjoy the vibrant skatepark culture. An upgrade should  feature state-of-the-art ramps, safe surfaces, and inclusive elements that could accommodate various skill levels and riding styles.

We need our local council and relevant authorities to recognise the importance of this community hub in Mornington and commit to revamping it. The benefits of investing in a modern skatepark are manifold – from promoting healthy physical activity and mental well-being to reducing antisocial behaviour by providing a constructive outlet for youth.
