Ever since the 15/70 IMAX projector broke at Cinemark 17 XD and IMAX, the Xenon IMAX projector, which only goes up to a 1.90 aspect ratio, cannot fill the 1.43 screen. Last time I went to see a movie in this theater, when I found out it only went up to 1.90, I was disappointed as it was not taking advantage of the entire 1.43 screen, and the resolution was also underwhelming, as it only went up to 2.9K, while 15/70 is around 18K. This has been disappointing for me and I'm sure others feel the same way. Upgrading to a Dual Laser IMAX system would allow Cinemark 17 XD and IMAX to show movies in their full digital glory at a 1.43 aspect ratio.

Dual Laser projection systems offer superior brightness, contrast, and color accuracy compared to traditional Xenon projectors. They also provide an enhanced viewing experience that can fully utilize the large IMAX screens for which these theaters are known, and can also go up to the full 1.43 aspect ratio of 15/70 projectors. These projectors also provide better blacks and contrasts, and use a laser light source instead of a xenon lamp arc.
