As a truck driver using the Trans-Canada Highway in Ontario regularly, I've personally encountered near-death experiences that could have been avoided if the highway was better constructed and less congested. Each journey is filled with apprehension due to high congestion, poor lighting, and recurring road construction. Over time, these concerns have escalated rather than diminishing.

The Trans-Canada Highway urgently needs an upgrade and expansion, not just for me but for the thousands of Canadians travelling each day. Deteriorating driving conditions and inadequate infrastructure contribute to unnecessary accidents every year. Sadly, an average of 30,000 to 40,000 people are injured in motor vehicle crashes in Ontario every year ("Ontario Traffic Council, 2017").

The growing population and influx of vehicles additionally worsen the situation, causing higher traffic congestion and drastically increased travel times year after year. With Ontario's population projected to grow by 30.3% by 2046 ("Financial Accountability Office of Ontario, 2017"), it is only logical to anticipate and prepare for the consequent increase in transportation.

It's high time the authorities took concrete action to mitigate these issues. Upgrading and expanding the Trans-Canada Highway will not only improve travel times but also significantly reduce the number of accidents, saving countless lives in the process.
