This petition has nothing to do with piercings, dyed hair, belts, or removing the dress code altogether.

The current rule requiring students to keep their shirts tucked in is unnecessary and can be uncomfortable throughout the school day. Whether our shirts are tucked in or not, this doesn’t interfere with our learning, but the discomfort and stress of having it in can be distracting. Being comfortable in our uniforms can help us students stay focused on what really matters, learning. Studies show that the comfort in the clothes we wear can actually improve concentration.

Allowing students to wear their shirts untucked would not take away from Mater Biscayne’s high standards. We could still require shirts to be school approved and appropriate, while giving students more confidence.

This is a small change that could make a big difference in students’ daily school experience. We ask the administration to listen to students and consider allowing shirts to be worn untucked.
