Update Cell Phone Policy at Prussing elementary

Update Cell Phone Policy at Prussing elementary
The Issue
As parents, guardians, and concerned community members, we are troubled and disappointed to learn of recent allegations of cell phone abuse and cyberbullying at Prussing Elementary School. Parents and guardians learned about this serious issue at the last LSC meeting, and through word of mouth - an approach that is both unprofessional and irresponsible.
Prussing administration's lack of response in this instance has resulted in students involved feeling emboldened to openly defy teachers. While we understand that Principals have limited power over certain matters, it is crucial that they exhaust all avenues available to them in order to effectively communicate expectations of acceptable behavior.
We call on the Principal of Prussing to improve communication for crises, take the opportunity to reiterate school policies (i.e. no cell phones during school hours), share implementation plans, and follow up to share how effective these measures are proving.
In the absence of a plan from the Principal or a commitment to try any proposals made by teachers and parents at the last LSC meeting, we propose two measures: First, a requirement for parental permission forms allowing students to bring phones to school. Second, the use of lock boxes in homerooms where these phones can be stored during the day. These steps will help mitigate misuse.
The culture at Prussing has been on a downward trend over the last 4+ years according to the annual 5Essentials survey results reported by students in grades 4-8 and nearly 60% of teachers. This is unacceptable.
Our children's safety is paramount. We want assurance that when there are issues concerning our children's well-being, we will be informed promptly; we want a detailed plan to address issues; most importantly, we need confidence that the administration is doing everything possible to improve the culture at Prussing School.
Please sign this petition requesting updates to the cell phone policy and stronger measures against cyberbullying at Prussing School, by the next LSC meeting Wed., Jan. 10 at 6 pm.
