The Issue

The proposed sober living facility's location at the corner of Griffis Ln. and Hwy. 1020 in Brooks, Ky. raises serious safety concerns and potential negative impacts on the community. Situated within walking distance of a liquor store and a Dollar General, it creates an environment conducive to relapse, thus undermining vital recovery efforts. The accessibility to alcohol challenges individuals striving to overcome addiction, putting their health and futures at risk. This development is set to house over 100 men,  with no medical oversight.  There are no sidewalks to ensure safe transit as these men will not have driving privileges.  The form of transportation would be by foot or vehicle transport.  There is also a Community Park and Elementary school within walking distance and many neighborhoods.

This area has a history of criminal activity which further exacerbates the unsuitability of the proposed location for a facility aimed at recovery and rehabilitation. Less than two years ago, a body was reportedly dumped nearby, highlighting the severity of crime in the area. Additionally, there's frequent drug-related traffic from Jefferson County, along with recent thefts captured by flock cameras. These incidents signify a trend of escalating crime rates that poses risks to residents, including those committed to recovery.

The location lacks the necessary infrastructure and environment conducive to fostering a supportive and secure path to sobriety. Safety, community wellness, and proper support systems are crucial for effective rehabilitation. Therefore, selecting a different location, distant from temptations and criminality, is crucial.

We must advocate for optimal conditions that ensure the safety and success of individuals in recovery while maintaining the integrity and safety of our community. Sign this petition to oppose the establishment of the sober living facility in its current proposed location, and to urge decision-makers to seek safer, more suitable alternatives that align with community values and recovery goals. Your signature can influence the decisions impacting our community's future and the well-being of those recovering from addiction. Please sign this petition to make our voices heard.
