Unlock Futures: Support Youth Housing in Albany

Unlock Futures: Support Youth Housing in Albany
The issue
Albany urgently needs better housing solutions for young people.
With a rental vacancy rate of just 0.2% and over 700 young people in the Great Southern and neighbouring regions waiting for social housing, many have no safe or affordable place to live.
Without a stable home and support to navigate the path into adulthood, it is virtually impossible for a young person to finish study or training and get a job.
That’s why the Great Southern Youth Foyer project is so vital.
Advance Housing Limited (AHL) and Albany Youth Support Association (AYSA) have partnered to deliver the Great Southern Youth Foyer.
This will deliver a 60-bed integrated youth housing solution with:
✅ 10 youth crisis beds to provide immediate safety
✅ 50 transitional beds providing a 2-year pathway to independence
✅ 24/7 onsite support, mentoring, education and employment
The Youth Foyer model of support works. Across Australia, 80% of young people exit Foyers into stable housing, employment and education.
"Having something like the housing and crisis beds that the Foyer project offers would have drastically changed my life. Being able to have independence and my own private space while still being supported is exactly what I needed and still need, and that's a sentiment echoed in many of my peers. A lot of us want to be independent but do not have the support, skills, or financial ability to do so. Some of us just get plain unlucky with the hostile housing market. We need more accessible housing for people everywhere, especially disadvantaged youth with nowhere else to go, and with no options” Former Albany youth refuge resident.
By investing in proven solutions, we aren't just giving young people a roof; we’re giving them a launchpad.
