Unlock 'Free from Three' Childcare Funding in Moray

Unlock 'Free from Three' Childcare Funding in Moray
The Issue
As a working parent of twins, I am faced with the enormous challenge of covering annual nursery fees amounting to £24,000. This financial strain is further compounded by the fact that my son was born with a cleft palate and lip, requiring additional care and support. Despite these challenges, being a working parent excludes me from receiving any extra funding or nursery placements.
The current council policy in Moray stating that childcare funding begins only after the term in which a child turns three disproportionately impacts working families. This policy results in many parents, like myself, having to pay thousands of pounds in nursery fees simply because our children have recently turned three.
This situation creates an undue financial burden, discrimination, and places many hard-working families in a difficult position, making them choose between career continuity and managing the high cost of childcare. It is crucial to address this gap in the system and provide a more equitable solution for all.
We propose that the Moray Council revisits this policy and introduces funding that aligns more closely with the child's third birthday, rather than the academic term to align with other Scottish councils. This change would not only alleviate financial pressure on families but also ensure children receive consistent educational opportunities and support during this critical development phase.
With Moray being a region that strongly believes in community support and family values, it is time for the council to reflect these principles in their policies. By updating the current policy to offer more timely funding, we can foster a more inclusive and supportive environment for all families.
Your signature can help make this necessary change a reality. Join me in urging the council to provide fair and timely childcare funding through the 'Free from Three' initiative in Moray. Sign this petition to stand up for the families and future of our community.
