Provide LFA Classes in British Sign Language

Thomas Ron started this petition to University of York

British Sign Language is an incredibly important way of communication and is vital to many deaf people who do not wish to use/cannot use hearing aids and cochlear implants.  It helps to bridge the gap and ensure full communication.  We therefore as the university to provide LFA classes for British Sign Language to allow students to study this vital language.

Currently the University provides BSL classes through Careers.  However, these classes are only open to those who pay and do not provide an adequate qualification in any way.

We therefore ask the university to ensure that LFA is provided as a course as of the next academic year, free of charge, and providing at the very least a Level 1 qualification in British Sign Language.

The university may not think that this is a good use of our money, but as students, if we speak loud enough, they will see that this is a useful investment and provide it for all students.
