Amid the crisis of COVID-19 many college students across the country have faced unexpected changes. Chancellor Mone of the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee has already cancelled the Spring of 2020 Commencement Ceremony without offering a postponement. All that has been offered is a cap and gown refund which isn’t good enough. The class of 2020 should be offered a postponed graduation ceremony or be able to participate in the Winter of 2020 graduation. Also, the Honors Ceremony should be postponed as well, not cancelled. The class of 2020 deserves to be honored for their hard work and dedication to earning their degree. Every other class has been able to have their family and friends watch their graduate walk across the stage and the class of 2020 deserves that as well. The class of 2020 shouldn’t stand for this treatment and we must prove to the University of Milwaukee’s administration and Chancellor Mone that we deserve our right to a Commencement Ceremony.
