Uwc Sudent started this petition to University of the Western Cape and

Graduating in the Arts faculty at the University of the Western Cape (UWC) is a prestigious but undervalued achievement. It is undermined by the very degree that one receives from the faculty itself. "Arts" students at UWC are often misunderstood for studying what other major universities Arts students study; theatre, music, dance etc. Arts at UWC  though, consists firstly of a compulsory double major, an immeasurably beneficial compulsion, of these majors one may choose French (and other foreign languages), Social Sciences, Anthropology, Psychology, History, and even Linguistics.

Having these majors on your degree would surely bolster your reputation and prove your candidacy for a position in a work setting, instead, all that is stated on the degree that you receive is your name and..."Bachelor of Arts". Owing to the years of hard work, financial debt, sweat, anxiety and stress put in, among fellow students dropping out due to those emotional taxes and the work load, it should at least be noted clearly on the degree exactly which degrees you have attained not just...Arts, because someone majoring in Psychology and Humanities...did not do dance or music, not that it is underrated, but the percentage of practicality of dance knowledge in a psychological work setting is minimal if not nothing at all. This applies to all of the majors within Arts faculty, it is impractical for the prospective employee to assume based on "Bachelor of Arts" that the linguist applying for the job studied theater.

Therefore, to avoid this assumption and afford the well-earned recognition one deserves for the Arts degree, this petition calls for a change in the degree printed out for future graduates as well as for past ones who wish it. This change must consist of the addition to what already is and clear printing, denoting onto the degree paper of the graduate's majors and therefore degrees that they have striven for and thus the esteem they so rightly deserve. As an example, someone who double majored in French and Linguistics shall therefore have it printed that they have attained a Bachelor of Arts - French and Linguistics, etc.
