The University of Saskatchewan has released the tuition rates for the upcoming school year-which still include athletic fees, rec fees, and bus pass fees. The university has stated that classes this year will most likely be online due to COVID-19. Additionally, the entire university will be closed in hopes to stop the spread of the virus. Not only students, but also professors have commented on how ridiculous it is for us to pay full price on tuition when most of the university's resources will be of no use to us. The U of S prides itself as a university that is big on research, a place that has many resources for students to use, a place to make friends, a place to make lifetime memories. The university, as well as universities across the globe have been stripped of this image due to classes being online. So then why are we still paying full price for getting a fraction of the "university experience"?

A large portion of the students at the university pursue research jobs or jobs relating to their field during the summer. I think it's safe to say that most people who had jobs planned for the summer lost them because of the pandemic. While there is a student aid benefit offered by the government, this aid only provides a little over half the salary that a student making minimum wage would make working full time the entire summer. Some students are still going to be living away from home and still have to pay for rent, utilities, groceries, etc. over the school year. How are we expected to pay for full tuition if lots of us have no way to make money over the summer?

I am a student at the University of Saskatchewan who is majoring in chemistry and I will be going into my fourth year. Most of my tuition, along with the majority of other students, goes to my labs since chemicals and supplies are very expensive. It makes no sense whatsoever to have us pay for those supplies if there is no chance of us using them.

Every single student that you talk to will agree that it is completely ridiculous that we have to pay full tuition for classes that are online. Please, even if you are not a student, sign this petition to show support.
