Extend the deadline for undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations

The Issue

Dissertations are a vital part of completing an undergraduate or postgraduate degree! They are a piece of work for students to be proud of after completion. However, for all of us who wish to do primary or secondary research, where does the situation with COVID-19 leave us?
With the impact of the coronavirus causing universities to close and organisations to work from home, not only are we missing out on teaching but it is near impossible for us to carry out any research for the foreseeable future. An extension on dissertation deadlines would allow us to delay our primary research gathering during this period of social distancing. Additionally, the government has told us to avoid social situations; how are we to even conduct literary based research if we are being discouraged from going to public spaces and using the university facilities?
So many students have worked hard on proposals, have got permissions and have got excited to conduct research that could be incredibly influential, but for the foreseeable future is not possible to do. Asking students to entirely change what they planned to do is not fair. The extension of dissertation deadlines would offer a solution to allow students to remain excited about their work and the prospect of research!
