Call upon Oxford University to secure long-term core funding for the Oxford Hub
The Oxford Hub is a student-led charity promoting social and environmental action amongst University of Oxford students. The Hub supports over 50 student-led projects working for positive social change in diverse causes from homelessness to educational inequality, loneliness in the elderly to fairer food systems. In addition to this the Oxford Hub runs conferences, talks, internships and awards that inspire students to contribute towards the local and global community by taking positive action.
The Oxford Hub is an invaluable resource for students, enabling tangible social change, skill development and critical engagement with social and environmental issues. It is also invaluable to the local and wider community who benefit from added capacity of students’ volunteering, filling the crucial demand.
Any educational institution, and especially a leading global university, should endorse the provision of this support for its students if it cares for the students’ current and future trajectories, as well as having a positive relationship with the wider community.
Both the support and funding from the University are vital for the service Oxford Hub provides, and the core funding from the university also allows the Hub to leverage 45% of its funding externally.
We, the undersigned, believe it is highly regrettable the University has cut all core funding for the Oxford Hub this year, amounting to £70,000. We recognise the invaluable service the Oxford Hub offers, and urge the University to provide a long-term sustainable source of funding.
