We have been overwhelmed by your support in the last 48 hours. Thank you, you are giving us a unified voice to take to the University and we have received many positive lines of support from both within the University the MIs and farther affield, including wider sport and society governance in the UK. We have also been succesful in getting our message to the Princess Royal, Chancellor of the University.
The University responded to us yesterday evening through a representative, and whilst not addressing the benefits raised or the concerns regarding representation, they confirmed that a vote was due to take place on the proposal on Friday morning and that the concerns that led to the proposal were primarily one of governance and risk. To this end we have written a substantial response to these concerns and made clear and reasoned formal requests:
1. To adjourn the proposal in light of the ability to enter in to co-operation with the student body to find mutually beneficial solutions. This is benefitted by the current environment as COVID19 has resulted in a pause to all student activities and funding so there is no clear reason to vote uniformed on this proposal tomorrow.
2. To allow our Student Representative to attend the relavant portion of the council meeting as an act of good faith by the university given the lack of student representation thus far.
In the final hours we have left to us, please continue to direct your emails to the MI represeantatives of the council, additionally, in light of learning that this decision has been driven primarily by the University management and executive, please also now directly reach out to the Vice-Chancellor, Deputy and Pro Vice-Chancellors and the wider board with our responsem your stories of how the clubs and societies impacted you and the positive reputational benefit they bring to the Unviersity (contact details can be found here).
Just under 24 hours to continue to amplify our message and ensure these requests are addressed.
