The Issue

The COP26 University Network comprises over 55 UK-based universities working to raise ambition and awareness about the COP26 Climate Change Conference. The Network aims to ensure the UK academic sector gets everyone on track to deliver a low-carbon, sustainable world by opening public access to evidence, widening the network of academics for COP26 in the government/NGOs and other actors, and by involving the university itself in such initiatives.

In addition, the COP 26 Declaration focuses on asset management and investments within the university. This can be found online at: https://www.sos-uk.org/resources-file/cop26-declaration-asset-owner-climate-expectations-of-asset-management

The University of Leicester has refused to sign this declaration. It is our duty, as students, to put pressure on the university to sign on with this initiative, or at the very least, practice transparency in informing its student body as to why it will not.
