#RestoreULSU
The Issue
The living conditions in The University of Lagos, Akoka, Nigeria have fallen way below the standard in recent months and the students staged a peaceful protest to express their displeasure. The management of the school deceitfully and forcefully evicted students from the campus indefinitely under the pretence that they were doing so to use our time away to tackle the problem head on.
However, three weeks after, the University, after unfairly trialling the student union leaders have asked us to resume under the most degrading terms possible. The school has also dissolved the student union body and is attempting to pressure the students into signing an agreement we are not interested in signing.
We have been threatened with our studentship and have been stripped off appropriate time to read for our forthcoming exams.
We are unhappy and thus plead with whoever has the power to come to our aid to help us in attaining the following objectives:
1) The restoration of The University of Lagos Student Union Body popularly known as ULSU
2) That no bonafide student of the aforementioned university be required to sign any documents they do not want to sign before being allowed back into campus.
3) That all the (reasonable) demands the Student Union body placed before the management be considered and addressed subsequently. These demands include power supply, availability of basic amenities including water and a proper regulation of prices of goods on campus to ensure that the traders do not take advantage of the students.
We do not in any way want to bring the school's name to disrepute and we believe strongly that when our aforementioned requests are met, the University will not only be a force to reckon with in Nigeria, but will produce students that will be reckoned with worldwide.
