University of Glasgow, Divest From The Arms Trade

The Issue

We, the students, staff, and the general public, are writing to demand an immediate and total divestment, disinvestment, and cessation of investments in the arms trade by the University of Glasgow and its proprietaries.

This Tuesday, 18th June 2024, the University of Glasgow will vote on whether to divest from the arms trade, or to continue investing. Please sign this petition to urge them to vote for a TOTAL divestment of arms. We have also put together an open letter on why the University should divest, as well as the damage that it potentially has and is continuing to contribute to by investing in the arms trade. This letter is also co-signed by GU Amnesty International, GU Unicef on Campus, and the GU LGBTQ+Students Association. It should only take a few minutes of your time to read, if you wish to do so.

We believe that it is completely unethical for ANY educational institution to invest in the arms trade, let alone one that claims to aim to make the world a better place.

The arms trade has no place in educational facilities.

EDIT: I have been advised that you need to download Adobe to see the open letter, so I have converted it into images that you can read below.
