Tafadzwa Mvundura started this petition to University of Cape Town

As you are reading this, the Zimbabwean economy is in free fall due to political and economic mismanagement. This has resulted in a lack of access to foreign currency.

In particular, this is affecting Zimbabwean students who intend on registering at the University of Cape Town. Most of them applied for a transfer of funds late last year, through Zimbabwean banks, necessary to meet UCT's initial deposit of R 33,000.00 but due to a lack of forex, their funds are being held up. This has resulted in them not being allowed to register for classes which is a form of financial exclusion.

Currently, UCT doesn't allow students who have not completely paid their initial deposit to register. On top of this fact, the University's policy prohibits 'foreign' students from applying for and receiving Grace Periods.

Given all this, it is unfair that UCT is restricting Zimbabwean students from registering for classes due to a financial problem that Zimbabwe, as a whole, is facing.

We call on the University to give a Grace Period to Zimbabwean students who are facing this challenge!
