The idea of the University of Aberdeen proposing online exams in this time of crisis is irresponsible. After 4 weeks of university strikes and then the world pandemic of Covid-19, implementation of online exams for 1st and 2nd years (which do not count towards their final degree result) is an unexpected reaction. The students are already under a great deal of stress over health concerns of themselves and loved ones, therefore the proposition of online exams, requiring a stable internet access in our homes leaves too much possibility for inaccuracies and errors. The use of public internet is not an option for anyone regardless of whether the students home country is on lockdown or not. If cancellation of exams is not possible for this university even after seeing 3 other Scottish universities implementing this action so far, then we must ask what this university’s priorities are. Should there be inconsistencies between these universities during this emergency? Exams should be based on necessity, do we as 1st and 2nd years really need to do these exams at this time under these conditions?
