Texas Gov. Greg Albott has signed the “Heartbeat Law”, one of the nation’s most restrictive abortion law, banning abortion after 6 weeks of pregnancy, which usually isn’t enough time for someone to even know they are pregnant. The new law puts medical practitioners at risk of being sued by anyone if they perform an abortion after 6 weeks. Texans are divided in half regarding abortion rights, 40% identifying as “pro-life” and 41% as “pro-choice”. This is an issue because people with uteruses should be able to decide what they do with their own bodies regardless of anyone else’s standpoint on a human right.

Greg Albott said “Our creator endowed us with the right to life and yet millions of children lose their right to life every year because of abortion. In Texas, we work to save those lives.” This year 7 executions will be performed in Texas. Albott has only ever granted clemency once in his 6 years in office. If this law passes, it will only make abortion way more dangerous than it should be, putting even more lives at risk, lives of people who have actually lived, not fetuses. We can’t keep allowing people in power to make decisions over our bodies when their own logic contradicts itself.

A solution would be to legalize abortion fully, this isn’t about “saving lives”, this is about having control over people’s bodies. Letting this law be enforced would set us back and right now the only option is to move forward to freedom.
